More Able and Talented
At George Green’s, we believe every student should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, and this includes our More Able and Talented (MAT) students. Our dedicated MAT provision aims to identify and nurture the talents and abilities of students, ensuring they are challenged, supported, and encouraged to strive for excellence in all that they do.
Classroom Practice: Tailored Teaching for Success |
Our approach centres on high-quality teaching that fosters learner independence and consistently challenges MAT students. By providing tailored support, we ensure they can achieve their full potential. We follow the GGS TEDoc framework in every lesson, maintaining a quality-first approach that sets high expectations for all learners. Through dynamic lessons and individualised support, we empower students to exceed their expectations and make significant progress.
Extra-Curricular Opportunities: Expanding Horizons |
While our classroom practice is key, we also provide a wealth of extra-curricular opportunities that allow our MAT students to flourish beyond their academic work. From university trips and subject-specific clubs to visiting speakers and masterclasses, there’s always something to engage and inspire.
Our students have the chance to participate in national and international competitions such as the Najob International Maths Competition, giving them the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world contexts. Additionally, we offer revision and higher-level learning provisions for those preparing for exams, as well as peer teaching and mentoring opportunities to further build their skills and confidence.
The Brilliant Club: A Gateway to University-Level Learning (Available to Years 7, 8 ,9, 10 and Year 12) |
At George Green’s, we are proud to offer our More Able and Talented students the opportunity to participate in The Brilliant Club, an exciting programme designed to challenge students and expand their academic horizons. The Brilliant Club connects students with university-style learning, enabling them to experience academic life at a higher level while still in school.
Through this programme, selected students work with PhD tutors to explore university-level topics across a range of subjects. Students are introduced to complex concepts, engage in critical thinking, and develop independent research skills. They also complete an extended piece of academic work, which is assessed using university grading criteria, providing valuable insight into the expectations of higher education.
Not only does The Brilliant Club provide intellectual stimulation, but it also encourages aspirations and broadens students’ perspectives on higher education. By participating, students gain the confidence and skills they need to succeed in their future studies, while also having the chance to experience the university environment first hand.
This opportunity is an important part of our MAT provision, supporting students in becoming independent, lifelong learners.
