Curriculum Overview

At George Green’s School we are committed to providing our students with a traditional, academic curriculum that introduces them to the best that has been thought and said, whilst developing an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

  • It provides students with a broad and deep curriculum experience across the 3 key stages.
  • It is ambitious: the vast majority of our students study the English Baccalaureate, robust academic subjects that give them access to the best that has been thought and said
  • It is sequenced intelligently to allow for interleaving, spaced learning and retrieval practice (desirable difficulties)
  • Its design emphasises the importance of durable and flexible learning - so students retain     powerful knowledge into adulthood
  • It is focused in the big curriculum picture, as captured in knowledge organisers
  • It provides opportunities for enrichment through clubs (including the Wednesdays Year 7     programme), trips and in-school experiences (e.g. the Aspiring Medics Programme)

At George Green’s School, our pedagogical approach is guided by the values of Aspiration, Equality, and Excellence, shaping a learning experience that promotes both the academic success and the holistic development of every student. These values ensure students are prepared for future success, both in their education and their life beyond school.

We are committed to nurturing the intellectual, emotional, and social growth of our students, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. By prioritising these core values, we firmly believe students are laying a strong foundation for long-term success.  #aspirationequalityexcellence

We believe that an effective curriculum:

  • Produces high levels of academic excellence and transcends exam success
  • Emphasises the role of knowledge in developing the critical thinking skills that are necessary for a successful adulthood and empowers students to be good decision-makers
  • Prioritises the important cultural, scientific and social knowledge that will enable students to understand the changing world around them and their place in it
  • Prepares students for life as culturally, democratically and economically engaged citizens
  • Is engaging and fosters a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge
  • Recognises the importance of all learning, formal and informal
  • Is organised in a way that encourages durable and flexible learning
  • Provides opportunities for students to develop high levels of literacy, including oracy, and numeracy
  • Includes regular opportunities to use formative assessment to check understanding and adapt teaching
  • Encourages students to be physically and mentally healthy
  • Provides choice, so students are encouraged to take ownership over their learning and develop specialism in areas where they have a particular strength or interest.
  • Uses time effectively, so that lessons are purposeful and meaningful
  • Reinforces our PACCAR principles (Principled, Adventurous, Creative, Collaborative, Analytical, Resilient)
