Post 16
This page provides you with information about the Post 16 Options available after Year 11 and support to make this transition. As per Government regulations, all students in the UK are required to remain in Education and Training until the age of 18 years old.
Students have the option to study an Academic qualification such as A-Levels, Vocational qualifications such as a BTEC, Technical qualifications such as a T-Level. Alternatively, students can apply for an Apprenticeship which is working (80%) and learning (20%). More information on all these options can be found below.

A-Levels
This is where you choose 3-4 subjects to continue studying at a college or a sixth form. This is the academic route to go to University.
Subjects examples may be Psychology, English, Biology- requiring at least a 6 in the subject you want to study as well as English and Maths A levels | Skills for Careers
BTEC
This is equivalent to A-Levels, where you pick one course to study What is a BTEC diploma? Nationals, Firsts & Apprenticeships
Examples may be- BTEC Business, BTEC IT
T-Levels
A new qualification that came out in 2020 where you choose one course to study consisting of 80% studying, 20% work experience/ placement at a college or sixth form
Subject examples maybe Engineering or Healthcare science- Requiring at least 5 GCSES Grade 4 and above T Levels | The Next Level Qualification
Apprenticeships
An Apprenticeship is when you are paid to work a job whilst completing a qualification- 20% studying, 80% working in a real Job. You must be 16 to apply for an Apprenticeship, and can apply for a Degree Level Apprenticeship when you are 18 Years old.
An example of an Apprenticeship may be Operational Firefighter- Level 3, Assistant Accountant- Level 3- Requiring at least 5 GCSES Grade 4 and above
At George Green’s School we believe every child should have tailored impartial guidance to support a successful transition their next steps after Year 11.
To support this, all students have a one-to-one Careers guidance meeting with a qualified Careers adviser from Tower Hamlets Young Work Path for 50 minutes. Each child will have an action plan created with information and next steps supporting their career choices and find out all vocational and non-vocational forms of study.
